AlbertaBus.com Unveils New Alberta Bus Service Network

(Edmonton) On Thursday, March 22nd AlbertaBus.com is being unveiled in response to the Alberta Transportation Bus Modernization Program, which was announced on June 27th, 2011. The new policy came in to effect on October 1st, 2011.

Alberta was the first Canadian jurisdiction to replace a regulated system and introduce policy change, which has created an open market for intercity bus services to better serve and respond to the needs of residents throughout the province.

Under Alberta’s previous regulated system, the government required carriers to maintain minimum service levels and provide service to rural and remote communities in exchange for limiting competition on those routes. Ultimately, the regulated system was no longer economically viable.

When the Alberta Transportation Bus Modernization Program was announced Transportation Minister, Luke Ouellette said “this is about putting in place the tools necessary for a flexible and responsive bussing system for all Albertans.  An open market for bus service supports free enterprise, removes barriers for service providers, fosters competition and gives service providers the flexibility to respond to customer needs.”

In response to Alberta’s Bus Modernization Program, AlbertaBus.com is a “made in Alberta bus service solution” designed to meet the existing and emerging needs of Albertans.

In an effort to serve the passenger needs of the province, six (6) established and experienced Alberta bus companies have come together to provide residents with a new passenger bus network by introducing new scheduled bus services and new routes to Alberta communities.

Currently, the AlbertaBus.com Group consists of; Brewster Transportation, ebus, Onkod Transportation, Red Arrow Motorcoach, Sundog Tours and Traxx Coachlines.

John Stepovy, of AlbertaBus.com adds “each of these partners are successful in providing intercity passenger services and charters to the Alberta communities and regions they serve. Their knowledge and keen understanding of the travel needs of their customers makes AlbertaBus.com the perfect travel alternative.

While AlbertaBus.com service is being launched, we continue to dialogue with other Alberta service providers who are considering service to Alberta communities where schedules and service can be improved or by introducing new routes to communities where no service exists today,” notes Stepovy.

The key benefit to the residents of the province is that the AlbertaBus.com partners are sharing their combined expertise, experience, knowledge and resources to provide an alternative bus travel option.

AlbertaBus.com routes will be operated to serve both metropolitan and small Alberta centres.

Routes will include:
- Lethbridge to Calgary - which also includes service to Fort Macleod and Claresholm.
- Medicine Hat to Calgary also offers service to Brooks, Bassano, Strathmore and Airdrie.
- In the Rockies, service is being provided to Banff, Lake Louise, Canmore, Kananaskis and Calgary.
- Metro service includes Calgary to Red Deer and Edmonton.
- New connector services include; Red Deer to Sylvan Lake and Rocky Mountain House and Red Deer to Stettler.

“Another unique highlight of the AlbertaBus.com service,” notes Stepovy “is that we offer direct service to both the Edmonton and Calgary International Airports on several of our routes for those travelers heading for domestic or international destinations from either of Alberta’s major airports.”

The AlbertaBus.com goal is to simply provide Albertans with a dependable travel alternative and to make bus travel within the province convenient.

Now planning bus travel within the province has become easier.

The AlbertaBus.com partnership has developed AlbertaBus.com Website the one stop “Online Booking Centre” where Albertans can now arrange their travel from virtually anywhere in the province. Now travelers no longer have to seek out and search for alternative service providers to get to their destination.

Travelers can also call Toll Free 1-855-55ABBUS or 1-855-552-2287.

“Thursday, March 22nd will not only be an opportunity to unveil our AlbertaBus.com passenger services and routes,” says Stepovy, “but will also provide an overview of planned future routes to meet the bus travel needs of residents throughout the province.

Like all new initiatives it does take time when you are going through a period of transition. We recognize that service gaps exist and we, along with our service partners and potential new service providers, are examining ways to increase bus service. However, our bus passenger services need to meet both safety and operational requirements to ensure a high quality service”.
